Great article. I've seen the rise of toxic individualism in self-improvement and spiritual communities too. Particularly in the assertion of boundaries to the detriment of people in need, and the focus on the individual as being totally responsible for their circumstances without any consideration for what's happening at a societal level.

Like you say, if it's sink or swim and we shouldn't expect any help in crisis why the hell are we paying taxes at all.
