I'm not arguing that we should ignore wisdom from others. The Buddha obviously had an incredible grasp on human psychology in the same way as Jung or any other philosopher/psychologist you may read. You can be inspired and moved by his teachings without subscribing to guru worship or even spirituality. That was my point when referencing his 'be a lamp unto yourself' statement. Many of the wisest teachers do not want to be followed in that way.
Equally, I haven't stopped talking to others about my beliefs or problems but I have stopped believing that the solutions reside outside myself. I am interested in others opinions but ultimately I now trust my own intuition when considering the best course of action for my own life.
